It's been awhile!

I haven't written in my blog in awhile. Not a great year 2008 -hopefully 2009 with be better. Unfortunately, my beloved Maggie J passed away on October 23, 2008. We miss her so much and was such a great member of our family. Some health issues hit our family but all ok now. Looking forward to a better 2009. Back on the diet trail AGAIN!!!.

Now have a new puppy - a "shihpoo".. Half shitzu and have poodle. Cutie pie..

#23 Wrapping Up

Wow.. I have to say I overall did enjoy the Web 2.0 Challenge. I have learned so many things about technology and obtaining information.

I would have to say my favorite part was registering with Bloglines. I have added many RSS feeds since I registered with Bloglines. I like being able to go to one location and find out news that interests me.

The least favorite of this challenge was the last one, Listen NJ. I don't think I will be tuning into that area of technology.

I have shared my blog with my family. Sometimes, I think I may know more then my daughters regarding the "techi" world!

The library should by all means continue to keep current with the constant changes in technology, but there still is nothing like personal customer service with our patrons. I believe that is what makes Ocean County Library so special by offering up to date information but in a personal and friendly manner.

Downloaded Media Console to download audio books from Listen NJ. Needed my library barcode and it was quick and easy. I don't know how much I would use this because I like having a book in my hands.

I checked this out. It really didn't grab me. Out of all the challenges, I liked this the least. I don't know why, but every topic I clicked on -nothing interested me. I tried travel, cooking, books, and music. Here is one about cooking.

I checked out YouTube, which is one of the challenges that I had previously been on. I find it fun to watch at times. I like Stevie Nicks so I searched her and found this video. I enjoy walking to this song.Check it out

#19 - Web 2.0 Awards

I will certainly be checking out the Web 2.0 Awards at home. I am totally enjoying my own Bloglines. I have subcribed to more blogs since I started this Web 2.0 challenge. I now find out all the latest tasty wines that are under $20!

Judysbook.com looks like a blog I would be interested in. It shows all good buys in the area. Craiglists.com is another site that I have checked out.

So much information out there! I will be checking it out.

Checked out google docs/added my name to the library document. Another great technology learning tool! It would be great for our branch to use this type of document if we were working on something together at the branch. So much to offer.. so much to learn!

#17 -Playing in the Sandbox..

Wow.. another day for an exciting challenge! First I checked out the "sandbox" and changed some things. I added my favorite food - anything Italian and favorite football team -Giants Rock! Then, went on to add my blog link to OCL webthings.pbwiki.com. That took a couple of times though.. Had to figure out to add my "URL" link.. getting so smart!

I checked out Library Sucess wiki.. It was another interesting website. So much library information. From training, reader advisories and material suggestions, it offers the reader so much.

I also checked out Ocean County Library on Wikipedia. I enjoyed reading about the start of Ocean County Library. Since I live in Point Pleasant, I further read about my home town.

#15 Web 2.0/Library 2.0

Another interesting take on technology. I read the first two articles - "Away from the Icebergs" and "Into a new world in Librianship". Both made me wonder about our future of libraries. Do we continue to offer a collection of books/vs netlibrary/internet ? I think so. There are still people that like to come in the library and read something that is in book form!

Also, I like the idea of spreading information of new modern librarian.. with the use of instant messaging.

WorldCat & NetLibrary

Checked out WorldCat - another interesting website. I searched different books and found Ocean County Library always popping up to tell me that it was closest library to offer the book!

Also checked out NetLibrary. I searched for items on dieting/cooking and travel. Several options and selections were available. I guess I could try and show a customer how to use this feature now. I just would need the time.

I am actually doing this searching on a Sunday night at home! Wait.. what is going on?

I love knowing what new technology is out there!

Just a heads up that I completed all steps including #9. Looking forward to the rest of the challenge! I have to say I am enjoying this technology challenge. I went to the forum today when someone from the Web committe was there and spoke about how we have to learn on our own about technology. I have to say that I have been doing that for awhile. I teach myself things as I go along!

RSS/Bloglines update

Just want to say after checking my "Bloglines" the first day, I found information under NY Times , one my new feeds, about a play (Gypsy) that I will be going to see in April. It was a great review. I am enjoying reading about so many different things with my new RSS feeds.

Wow, I can't believe myself sometimes. I have now created an account on "Bloglines". I have added over 14 "feeds". I picked a variety of subjects. Some of the RSS feeds on my blogline are "About Gardening", USA Today, Asbury Park Press, CNN, Rolling Stones, Simply Recipes and a couple of others.

I continue to find these steps challenging, but at the same time, I am glad I am learning how to do these things and learn the proper terminology. I go home and share with my two daughters - ages 22 & 24 what there mom has been up too!

I will enjoy going to my blogline at home and finding out quickly the current news. By reading the library news/blogs - the library can obtain up to date suggestions to use.

I found adding adding the newspapers to my Blogline more difficult then adding suggestions from their list.

Now get to take a breather and wait for Technology Blogging! Until then!!!

Seven & 1/2 Habits of Lifelong Learning

After reading the lifelong learning tips, I find myself thinking the easiest habit for me is learning and growing through technology. I am enjoying this challenge and look forward to learning more. As for the most difficult of habits, I would say having not having enough confidence in myself. I also need to realize that all problems will eventually work out. I should try to think of problems as challenges.
